5 of the Best Cafes in Mt Eden

Ranfurly Village News

A wonderful part of enjoying the urban retirement lifestyle at Ranfurly Village is its close proximity to many wonderful eateries. At our retirement village in Auckland, residents have world-class fitness and gymnasium facilities—including a soon to be opened 15-metre swimming pool with hydrotherapy capability!

So, before you step out to one of the five best cafes in Mt Eden, you can soon pop to the pool for a gentle workout or even take a stroll to the lawn for a game of bowls. Once you have worked up an appetite, you can work your way through this list.

1. Frasers

An iconic site that has been serving the local community since 1989, Frasers was the original Mt Eden General Store - founded in the 1870s by Alfred Cucksey. The current owners of this landmark cafe are proud to carry forward the tradition of service that characterises this locale.

Serving up food around the clock, at Frasers you can pop in for a meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner—or just enjoy a coffee and a slice of their famous cake.

Fraser’s runs a delicious all-day menu with lots of classics to choose from. You can get a hearty bowl of porridge, eggs benedict, or a bagel. If you fancy a soup, this Mt Eden icon serves up a soup of the day all year round. As night falls, you can enjoy a cocktail or a bottle of carefully selected New Zealand wine or bolster your spirits with a Gin from Fraser's curated Gin collection.

The dinner menu includes a Kiwi favourite, the Veal Schnitzel; you may like to try the risotto, or perhaps a light and crunchy Chicken Caesar Salad with a creamy dressing. Just a short ride from your retirement village in Three Kings, Fraser’s also has options for the kiddies, which makes it a great choice for an outing with the grandchildren.

2. Circus Circus

A firm favourite to entertain young visitors, Circus Circus is a mere 6 minutes away by car. This quirky cafe and restaurant has been running for nearly three decades and boasts a seasonal menu with a few old-fashioned favourites thrown in. Try the Chicken Livers or the Bubble and Squeak for a heartening lunch, or go light with the Circus Salad, which is vegan and gluten-free.

Another great thing about living at our retirement village in Three Kings is the excellent public transport right on the doorstep.  So, if you fancy a glass or two from the excellent wine list at Circus Circus, you can be home safely in 20 minutes.
